Action Research

 Action Research

As this is my first post it is only right to dedicate it to action since I am a huge action fan.

Traditionally, action movies usually contain a protagonist and an antagonist. Throughout the story, we see the protagonist go through a series of intense or suspenseful events which might contain life-threatening situations, fighting, and at most times, fantastical aspects.

Action content

Action films typically manipulate situations to help the protagonists persevere. Therefore making them seem powerful or strong. Sometimes action movies portray the story or determination of vigilantes. The events usually contain a problem which local enforcement either cannot solve due to lack of power or strength, lack of belief, or just plain laziness. Once the protagonist realizes that no one can devote themselves to the problem, they take matters into their own hands and figure it out the best they can on their own.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)

In this particular film, we see one of the main characters (Tom Wachowski) help Sonic the Hedgehog after the people in his town failed to believe his crazy remarks of a crazy scientist and a fast blue ray. Like traditional movies, he is forced to take matters into his own hands

Of course there are other kinds of action films in which there is no enforcement involved but technically, unethical activity might occur. For example, the movie Inception (2010) keeps the
viewer excited as they watch a series of intense events unfold. In this movie, there is no written kind of illegal activity occurring but it technically "isn't right".

Production Technique:

Action may contain a variety of scenes in which a main character is captured running or driving a car or motorcycle at a fast speed. This contributes to the fast pacing of action movies. The camera might follow them through the use of a tracking shot (sometimes shaky to imitate a victim of the situation). These films might also include a lot of close ups to indicate important sections of the film or even to build suspense. An example of both of these are included in the film Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014).

Instituational Conventions:

Actions movies can commonly be marketed through movie posters. After careful observation, I have realized that these posters may contain a mixture of debris, guns, and fires. Usually, the characters are either looking to the side to showcase their seriousness and determination to do right by people. They may also be seriously looking directly into the camera which is directly associated with power. Characters might be doing an intricate pose. In movie trailers, there is usually a lot of cuts so that the viewer can preview the faster pace. These cuts include text in which they slowly explain the main goal throughout these cuts. They might also include the film's most visually extreme scenes. For example the most complex fighting scenes.
